Beyond the Collection
The KIRSANOV collection represents our own selection of furniture, designs and objects that we believe deserve to be made. But it is only a starting point.
Through specialist workshops and craftspeople in India and Indonesia, KIRSANOV has the resources and experience to undertake an exceptionally wide range of bespoke commissions, from individual pieces of furniture to complete kitchens, bedrooms, libraries and home offices.
Sometimes the requirement is straightforward: a dining table in an unusual size, a sofa with particular proportions, or a cabinet designed for a specific space. At other times, it may be something more ambitious — an elaborate fitted interior, a technically complex piece of furniture, or the recreation of something admired forty years ago and never seen again.
We are particularly interested in these commissions. They allow us to move beyond what is readily available and create something genuinely individual.
Craftsmanship Without Borders
Exceptional craftsmanship is rarely confined to one place. Different regions have developed particular skills, materials and traditions, and knowing where to find the right people is an important part of what KIRSANOV offers.
India provides an extraordinary breadth of specialist capabilities.
In Jaipur, we can commission hand-knotted wool and silk carpets, traditional dhurries, flatweaves, kilims and contemporary rugs, made to individual designs, dimensions and colourways.
Jodhpur offers fine cabinetmaking and carved furniture, particularly in Indian rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo).
In Bengaluru, specialist upholsterers produce bespoke sofas, armchairs and upholstered beds, while Mumbai provides the technical expertise for complex cabinetry incorporating mechanisms, concealed storage and specialist fittings.
The metalworkers of Moradabad offer exceptional capabilities in brass, silver and decorative metalwork, while Delhi provides access to fine upholstery fabrics, linens, velvets and specialist textiles.
Indonesia brings another remarkable tradition of cabinetmaking, carving and fine furniture construction, together with first-grade plantation teak (Tectona grandis), valued for its stability, character and enduring beauty.
These are not simply manufacturing centres. They represent different traditions of craftsmanship, each with particular strengths. By bringing them together, KIRSANOV can undertake commissions that might otherwise be difficult to realise through a single workshop.
Made for the Individual
KIRSANOV is not concerned with mass production or maintaining speculative stock. Each piece is commissioned when it is wanted, whether it is made several times or only once.
There is no reason to produce a hundred pieces simply because we have made one.
This freedom allows us to concentrate on what matters: proportion, construction, materials and finishing.
Make it when it is wanted. Make it slowly. Make it right.
From an Idea to a Finished Piece
A bespoke commission need not begin with a complete set of drawings.
It may start with a photograph, a sketch, an existing piece of furniture or simply a description of something you have in mind. Historical designs can be reconsidered, dimensions altered, materials changed and details developed to suit contemporary living.
Our role is to manage that process on your behalf.
Drawing on decades of experience in high-end residential projects, we establish the design intent, develop the specification, identify the appropriate craftspeople and coordinate the commission through manufacture and finishing.
This is particularly valuable where a piece requires several different disciplines, perhaps combining fine cabinetmaking with decorative metalwork, specialist upholstery or integrated technical systems.
The objective is not simply to reproduce an attractive image, but to create a properly made piece of furniture whose quality becomes apparent through everyday use.
A Personal Commission
Whether the requirement is a complete fitted interior or a single unusual piece, every commission receives the same consideration for good design, appropriate materials and careful workmanship.
The KIRSANOV collection expresses a particular point of view. Our bespoke service allows us to apply the same standards and resources to something entirely your own.
