Siena Painted Cassone
A richly decorated Italian cassone inspired by seventeenth-century painted marriage and storage chests, combining ochre-gold and warm umber panels with black floral ornament, architectural arches and a distinctive central escutcheon.
Description
The front is organised into two large arched fields of scrolling floral decoration, flanked by narrow ornamented panels and framed with deeply profiled mouldings. Black arabesques contrast with the warm painted ground, while the lower frieze and square end supports carry further geometric and scrolling motifs. A discreet PKK cartouche occupies the centre of the lower apron. The hinged lid opens to a spacious chest interior with a small bank of compartments, making the piece both decorative and practical. The overall effect is richly historical without requiring an antique provenance.
Historical Reference
Inspired by seventeenth-century Italian cassone traditions. This is a proposed newly manufactured interpretation, not an original antique.
